Mike Smiley brings over 20 years of professional dog training and operational experience to MALS K9 and SICS-USA. His career began in the military, where he developed a passion for working with K9s, later continuing his service in law enforcement as a K9 handler for multiple agencies.
Throughout his law enforcement career, Mike served in specialized assignments including the Violent Crime Task Force, District 21 Drug Task Force, and SWAT Team, gaining extensive real-world experience in high-pressure environments where discipline, teamwork, and performance were critical.
Today, Mike combines that experience with a passion for helping others by training dogs and educating handlers to build stronger, safer, and more effective partnerships. His commitment to professional K9 development has helped shape MALS K9 into a trusted resource for dog training, obedience, protection, and specialized training.
In addition to leading MALS K9, Mike is the co-founder of Smiley Investigative & Consulting Services USA (SICS-USA), where he provides consulting and instruction in environmental tactical awareness, firearms training, close-quarters battle (CQB), and critical incident preparedness. His unique combination of military, law enforcement, and K9 experience allows him to deliver practical, real-world training that empowers individuals, families, and organizations to be better prepared and more confident in their abilities.

Lori Smiley has been a lifelong dog lover with a passion for helping both people and animals reach their full potential. Before co-founding MALS K9 and Smiley Investigative & Consulting Services USA (SICS-USA), Lori spent many years working in special education as a School Psychologist, dedicating her career to supporting children, families, and educators.
Today, as a K9 trainer at MALS K9, Lori combines her love of working with people and animals through dog training programs, helping clients build stronger relationships with their dogs through patience, understanding, and effective training techniques. Her compassionate approach and educational background allow her to connect with both handlers and their dogs in meaningful ways.
As co-founder of SICS-USA, Lori also assists with investigative and consulting services, bringing a unique perspective shaped by her extensive experience in psychology and education. She has a particular interest in cases involving wrongful convictions, false confessions, and other complex legal matters where careful analysis and attention to detail are critical.
Lori views her work at MALS K9 and SICS-USA as an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Whether helping a family achieve success with their dog through her dog training expertise or supporting clients through challenging circumstances, she remains committed to serving others with compassion, integrity, and professionalism.
